Whidbey Island summer 2025
Whidbey Island. Summer 2025.
Whidbey Island. ❤️
Martin's sister, Peggy, and her wife, Kelly, have a gorgeous property on a bluff overlooking Puget Sound with views of Port Townshend on the distant shore. Their property is a cross between a wildlife refuge and a retreat. It is just the best and we love spending time there.
As we started down their driveway a momma quail with about a dozen babies scooted across in front of us. Momma had quite a time trying to get all the babies in line and across the driveway while we waited. They were adorable, but my camera was packed away and by the time I managed to get it out, they had disappeared into the underbrush on the other side of the road. We just started up again when a momma deer and a fawn came out to greet us. And this was before we even got to the house!
On to pics:
They had several deer that were frequent guests. The fawn that greeted us when we arrived.

I never did manage to get pics of the babies, but I did get several shots of Mr and Mrs Quail as they circumnavigated the yard looking for yummy bits. Mr Quail took his guard duty very seriously allowing the Mrs to scavenge as much as she wanted. Here Mr Quail is on the edge of the bird bath.
And, of course, he has to look right and left for any sign of danger while the Mrs searches below.
Now they've moved on and he's atop a light post where he's got a good view. It looks a little uncomfortable to me but it doesn't seem to bother him.
And there she is, the elusive, hungry Mrs. Quail searching for yummy bits.
Peggy and Kelly have a variety of bird feeders, hummingbird feeders, an active bird bath and a deer feeding station. I recognized 3 or 4 regulars.
This little guy clearly approved. He thought it was lip smacking good!

all are welcome, even squirrels and chipmunks
Washington summers are for being outside and we always love checking out new places
Another day we took their new puppy, Asher, to Greenbank Farms, not far from their place, for some play time.
The knee high grasses were golden and so beautiful, but fortunately they had a series of paths through the fields for, at least the "two-legged" to walk on.
Asher living her best life ❤️
Asher had no reservations about checking out whatever caught her interest.
The perfect way to relax at the end of the day: sitting on the bluff, watching the Sound, sipping Kelly's famous g&ts, all while being with family ❤️
