the adventure begins
A sign I saw at a coffee shop (don't worry, I still don't drink coffee, I was there for the bagels). It's made of licence plates from all different states and provinces.
the eagle has left the nest, repeat, the eagle has left the nest
Only four days late, and following an emotional farewell with Josh, Camryn and the pups we headed out at about 10:30am on May 25.
The adventure begins!
Excitement, yes, and a measure of concern, anticipation and perhaps a wee bit of anxiety, wonder at our audacity and worry, that this time maybe our dream and reality will turn out to be at odds and this is one of those things that you might not be able to will to happen no matter how hard you work for it. But then I looked over at Martin beside me and felt reassured. We have no pre-set criteria that have to be met. No list of objectives to check off. Just time to be together experiencing life. Meeting new people, seeing local customs, seeing where some of those historical people or events came from or happened, and always, always seeing the beauty and majesty of this land in all it's forms. This is something we can do. This is something we're good at.
Then Martin turns to me and says "Do you have your National Park Pass?". My what??? My National Park Pass??? The "pass" to get me into the majority of the campgrounds we're staying in??? The "pass" we purchased last year in preparation for this trip??? (Cue scary music … 😱😱😱 )
Not only do I not have it …I have no idea where it could be (don't forget, we had packed everything up to switch bedrooms).
YIKES!!!!!
AND WHAT ELSE HAVE I LEFT BEHIND!!!!!!?????
After I settled down a bit, I remembered what it was IN, just not where it WAS and let's just say that was the first of several texts Josh received from us the first few days. Such a trooper, a true slueth, I don't know how he did it, but he found the wallet with the cards and a few other important essentials that got left behind and sent them to us at Assateague, our third stop.
So, as long as we're flexible and let life happen (oh, and have a good, scratch that, GREAT support team 😉) we'll be fine. ❤️
Our first destination: French Creek State Park, PA, about an hour west of Philadelphia.
